“The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”
There is nothing like experiencing the raw beauty of a rainy day in the tropics. The wet weather is the reason for our amazing rainforest and wildlife, and we do recommend making the most of it.
Here are some ideas:
As the only aquarium in the world dedicated exclusively to the habitats and species of tropical North Queensland, the Cairns Aquarium connects visitors with the natural wonders of The Great Barrier Reef and The Wet Tropics. With over 15,000 animals and unique opportunities to move up close to some of the world’s most fascinating animals, every visit is unforgettable.
Cairns Zoom and Wildlife Dome
Cairns ZOOM & Wildlife Dome, the world’s first challenge ropes course in a wildlife park. Cuddle a koala, enjoy interactive Australian wildlife presentations and experience adventure on the Mid-ZOOM and Hi-ZOOM courses with three ziplines – one of which takes participants directly over Goliath, their 4-metre saltwater crocodile! The Wildlife Dome is located on top of Cairns Casino!
White Water Rafting
Another experience for those who don’t mind getting wet, white water rafting is an adventure that is improved tenfold when it has or is raining. When there is rain, the rapids are at their best and are rushing with full force downstream making for a thrilling white water rafting adventure.
Atherton Tablelands and Waterfall Tours
Waterfalls are always better when it’s been raining, and because you’re in Tropical North Queensland the water isn’t going to be that cold, so you can still enjoy a swim in the waterfalls. The Atherton Tablelands are beautiful, so this is another must do activity in Cairns.
Lasertag is an exciting arena-based activity for players aged six and up and is awesome fun for adults and children alike. Laserfun has complex strategic game-modes for adult players, or simple zap-the-players mayhem! All this, in a fully air-conditioned venue!
